String = Orchestra=20 Audition Requirements 
 

All=20 Instruments 

Prepare the following = audition material=20 to the best of your ability: 

SCALES 

Violin, Viola and Cello: = Choose any 2=20 of the following TWO OCTAVE Scales:

    • C, D, F, G, and = A=20
 

String Basses: Choose any = 2 of the=20 following ONE OCTAVE Scales:

    • E, F, G, A and = C.=20
 

Please play scales with a = full beautiful=20 tone: Quarter note =3D 88. 

SOLO 

Prepare and perform any solo = of your=20 choice. A well prepared audition will include a solo that features both = lyrical=20 and technical aspects. The Suzuki Series is an excellent=20 resource. 

SIGHT=20 READING 
 

Students will be asked to = sight read a=20 composition that is appropriate for the String Orchestra. The student = will be=20 given 1 minute to look over a short excerpt and then asked to play it to = the=20 best of their ability.
