Auditions
Auditions are held annually for participation in YOGC orchestras. All young musicians entering grades 4-12 are encouraged to audition. Each ten-minute audition includes scales, required audition excerpts, and sight reading. Students are placed in the ensemble best suited to their musical needs. Current members of the YOGC are not guaranteed a position in either orchestra and must re-audition annually.

Membership
Membership for both orchestras is determined by audition only. You should call the Executive Director to schedule an audition time. Your application should be sent to the mail address, faxed or emailed.

Audition Location and Requirements
Orchestra placement is strictly competitive. The Youth Orchestra can not guarantee positions to former members of the Youth or String Orchestra. Auditions will be held in the Schwob School of Music Orchestra Room at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Audition time is limited to no more than 10 minutes. You should arrive early and be warmed-up and tuned before entering the audition room. An accompanist is not required. Auditions will be competitive and will dictate chair placement. The minimum performance standard must be one that can support the level of repertoire envisioned for the Youth Orchestra and that can be accomplished with only one rehearsal per week. A student's performance ability must be of the quality that can work up a full orchestra concert within approximately 10 hours of rehearsal time.

Description
The Youth Orchestra and String Orchestra are two separate organizations operating in cooperation with each other under a single board of directors. The goal of both ensembles is to supplement the school music experiences of the most talented string, wind, brass and percussion players in the Columbus area by performing repertoire of the highest quality and through special master classes and sectionals led by the area's top professionals. The quality of the experience will drive all decisions relating to the Youth Orchestra.
